Singapore Vs Hongkong
Hong Kong is accessible by plane, approximately 5 hours from Singapore Changi airport. The tourism industry in Hong Kong have also been an important part of the economy. Its tourism expenditure associated to inland tourism reached HK$117.3 billion in 2006, and its overall visitor arrival have also increased in 8.1% in 2006.
Disneyland and universal studios
Similar to Singapore, tourism being its one of its largest economy pillar, have resulted into a prosperous HongKong. Hong Kong tourism was estimated to boost with the new disneyland theme park. The capacity of the park is 34,000 visitors per day, and is the smallest Disneyland park. However, it has so far fallen short of meeting its targeted visitorship figures. The park attracted 5.2 million visitors in its first year, below its target of 5.6 million. Visitor numbers fell 20% in the second year to 4 million, which was below company targets, inciting criticisms from local legislators.
Singapore will also be having its themepark built in Sentosa as announced on 8 December 2007. To ensure that Singapore learn from it’s neighbouring countries experiences, the themepark park is reported to be a "one-of-its-kind theme park in Asia" as Universal Studios has promised that this will be the only park it would have in Southeast Asia for the next 30 years. The unversal studios theme park will have 24 rides and at least 18 will be original and specially designed for the park.
Both countries are highly dependant on the tourism industry and the similarity between them is how they expand their industry. The tourism advertising strategy between Singapore and Hong Kong is also similiar. Both emphasizes the country as a food and shopping paradise. Also being extremely accessible globally is an advantage towards the country.

If Singapore…
Had more land area, what could we construct so as to push Singapore a step up onto a higher pedestal and be recognized as a country to look out for in the future?
The amount of limitations our little island faces everyday with land area has prevented us from prospering to our fullest potential. Further developments must be well thought through and considered before getting the green light. Questions like ‘Is it really necessary to build this?’ ‘Where can we construct it?’ ‘What benefits can we gain from building this?’ are just a few questions raised.
One has to think: What can we do with more land area? Despite having the problem of having small land area, Singapore has continued to take up project after project and also have been carrying out these projects with excellent results! So what can we do with more land area? Definitely lots more!
Besides the limitations of small land area, Singapore is also facing competition from her neighbouring countries. Malaysia and Hong Kong, for example, already have extremely successful casinos that have been up and running for many years. We not only have to compete with these countries, we also have to be able to match up to their standards and become as successful.
How has Singapore overcome these problems?
With the little land available, we are already constructing whatever possible to bring us a step further. But is the sky the limit when it comes to development in Singapore?
In this year alone and the next few years to come, Singapore has taken up many major projects like the Singapore Flyer, Integrated Resorts and the Youth Olympics. Such projects alone have already pushed our little island to its limit. On top of that, there was also the extremely successful Formula One Night Race which attracted the attention of many tourists who have put Singapore down in their planners as a place to visit.
From the success of some of these projects, it is evident that we have managed to overcome our problems with land area and also competition with our neighbouring countries. We not only have to continue to show everyone that we are indeed capable of producing excellent results with whichever projects we take up, but also show everyone that Singapore is a country to look out for as the years go by.
Singapore has faced so many restrictions since day one and from the success of most of the projects, it has shown that Singapore has managed to work against these limitations and emerge as a successful country to look out for in the future.

The Changi Museum
Dedicated to all who suffered during the dark years of WWII in
Singapore, visiting the Changi Museum is a quick way of getting to
know the history of Singapore.
Through letters, photographs, drawings and personal artefacts,
the Museum chronicles the compelling stories of the people during WWII.
The Museum also serves as an important educational institution and
resource centre. As for the Prisoners-of-War (POWs) and their
families, it is a site for closure of many emotional scars
inflicted by the war.
